Frederik Pohl has died. Pohl wrote a brief entry on his blog, The Way the Future Blogs, on the morning of September 2, 2013. Suffering from respiratory distress, he went to the hospital, where he died that afternoon. Frederik Pohl was ninety-three years old.
I reread his novel Gateway just a few weeks ago and learned a new appreciation for it. I'm eager now to read its sequels. There is only a little that's wrong about Gateway and far more that's right, including the ending, which is a surprise and adds a whole new dimension to the story.
Yes, this is living, and we should all do it while we can.
