Independence Day on Flying Saucer Day

Tomorrow, June 24, is Flying Saucer Day. It's also the official opening day for Independence Day: Resurgence. The first Flying Saucer Day occurred on June 24, 1947, when Kenneth Arnold saw several silvery objects flashing through the skies over Mount Rainier. That event didn't exactly mark an invasion from outer space, but intentionally or not, the makers of Independence Day: Resurgence will be observing it with the release of their movie. Best wishes to them and Happy Flying Saucer Day to everyone!

  1. I'm inclined to believe that the fact that this movie is being released on the anniversary of Kenneth Arnold's close encounter is just a happy accident, but I certainly could be wrong. In any event, it's a pretty neat coincidence.

    1. Dear Mike,

I'm with you on this one. I doubt that the makers of the movie know that much about the Flying Saucer Myth or that they would commemorate the first sighting this way. It's more likely a business decision.
